Fashion is the style and flair of current dress and accessories. Fashion includes clothes as well as accessories such as jewelry, shoes, and purses. Today’s fashion world, just like our modern world in general, has been influenced significantly by the information age.
Over the past few decades, Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) has begun to play a pivotal role in the creation and production of fashion. From swimwear to wedding gowns, CAD has been used to design and then create the fashions of today.
However, many people think CAD is only used for designing cars, planes, tanks and maybe houses. But in reality, CAD is used extensively in the fashion world. In the fast-paced world of fashion, professional and aspiring designers, who want to create cutting-edge designs, require a powerful CAD fashion design system. Today's designer must have an eye for fashion as well as be technically savvy.
CAD is not the only technological change that has effected fashion. The Internet has become a way to follow fashion trends. Famous fashion designers have turned to the Internet to display their new lines. Online fashion shows have become an accepted advertising method. Women's fashion, men's fashion as well as haute couture are readily available online.
The home seamstress has not been left out of technical advance. Computerized sewing machines have made home-made clothing worthy of the title fashion. From the basic sewing machine to the quilting sewing machine, the art of creating women's clothing in particular and fashion items of all types in general have been improved by the creation of the computer. Companies like Brother and Singer offer computerized sewing machines that can be used for fashion development of all types. These systems run programs that perform very complex stitch operations, provide stored memory capability for patterns, fantastic needle options and more. And we can't forget the industrial sewing machine which has made the mass production and mass distribution of new fashion trends a reality.
Even Print On Demand (POD) has made its mark in fashion. Today stores such as Zazzle and Cafepress are making customized items, from t-shirts to teddy bears, overnight. The computer has completely revolutionized fashion.
Of course, technology in fashion is not a new phenomena. In 1891 the semi-synthetic fiber Rayon began to be used commercially. Many synthetic fibers were developed in the 1930s and 1940s that became widely available in the 1950s. So the application of science and technology are not new to the fashion world.
However, fashion itself is either a reflection of personal choice or a function of the dominant trend in apparel design. In the former, an individual may have a particular style that they have adapted for their own use, in the latter, the individual is guided by what is in or trendy in the larger social milieu, for example the mini-skirt was at one time a fashion craze.
Tips on building a wardrobe
Everyone should have their own style, but here are some basic
tricks that will help you build a good and long lasting wardrobe.
- Color should be used to accessorize. Don't be too bland in
your choice of clothes. You will fade into the background.
- You should wear no more than one bold color piece at a time.
You don't want to look like a clown.
- Make sure you complement your skin tone. Extremely bright
colors on a pale person makes them look even more pale. The
darker your complexion, the more vibrant your color choices
can be.
- This may sound crude, but it is true, the better the quality
of an item the easier it is to get away with unusual colors.
And besides, it is always best to buy good quality because they
stand the test of time.
- If a color seems too overwhelming, wear layers which will
soften the effect of the colors boldness. An extremely bright
blouse or shirt under a subdued sweater or jacket is more appealing
than the shirt or blouse on its own.
- Where colors that are in the same family. If you wear two
or three shades of blue, they will complement each other. Color
contrast is also acceptable, but color coordination is always
a sure winner.

For the men |
- Don't go for fads. Buy the tried and true styles that
last. That means not too short and not too tight.
- Choose colors that complement your eyes, hair color
and skin tone. Remember the lighter the skin tone the
more pastel should be the color choices. If you have a
darker complexion you can venture into the more bold colors,
but don't overdue it just because you can.
- And speaking of hair color, don't go for the blue, purple
or unnatural red. Stick with the natural tones that are
soft and subtle---they are sexy as well. If you can, long
hair is better than short. Why, because you can wear it
up for the short look as well as down. Don't cut off your
options.
- Make sure you have at least one black dress, two is
preferable---one for day one for evening. Of course, it
doesn't have to be a dress, it could be a well-tailored
black business suit. This is good for interviews, office
wear and for early dinner engagements.

- Don't go for fads. Buy the tried and true styles that
last. That means don't go for the too wide or too skinny
ties, they will disappear. Forget the flight jacket, that
will be out of style in six months. (Does anyone even
remember the Nehru jacket?) Always go for the classics.
- Go for earth tones---brown, beige, dark greens, olive,
etc. When you go for blue make it dark blue and do the
same with gray, charcoal is much better than that sort
of sickly light color gray. And of course, black is always
a winner.
- Brown shoes are a must. Black are good sometimes, but
brown should be the daily choice---unless you're wearing
black or gray of course.
- Buy yourself a tuxedo. Don't keep renting. You will save
money and look more attractive to boot.
