Ecommerce

Here is a brief synopsis of steps that you need to perform to setup an ecommerce site. Keep these steps in mind as you read through and listen to all the content on this page. Of course, you don't have to create your own domain. You can go through one of the many services that let you get started right away. Check out the featured videos for a few hints on how to do that.

  • Before you begin developing a site, make sure that your product is in demand. Use Google Keyword Tool to research your keywords. This will help you determine how many people are looking for the items you want to sell.
  • Determine the categories and sub-categories of products you will be selling. Use a spreadsheet to layout this information.
  • Second, because it is simple to get up and running. You won't need a programming expert to get you started. If you don't have money to throw away on expensive consultants (and who does), choose Paypal as your shopping cart.
  • Determine how you will deliver your product to your customer.
  • Register a domain. Research you store name and domain name very well before you finally decide what they will be. Remember this is who your customer will come to know and hopefully remember.
  • Pick a hosting service. What ever you do, don't get a free hosting account. These accounts not only look bad to your customers, they can disappear on you overnight. That means, now website, no sales, no money.
  • Open a Paypal account to accept online payments. With paypal you can accept credit cards as well as Paypal member transactions. Why Paypal? First, because Paypal is a trusted method of transferring money on the web. People will be able to shop with confidence because they know if they aren't satisfied they can get their money back. Naturally, most people don't ask for their money back, they just want to know that you can be trusted. Paypal will give them that confidence.
